Overview

Duke Street Church has a wide range of activities for children, both mid-week and on Sundays.  Everything we do for children is geared towards supporting parents instruct their children so that they come to know and love the God of the Bible.

Psalm 78:1-4 says “Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”

It is God alone who can open the heart of any person to understand the truths of his word, and we believe that he can produce true faith in very young children if they hear and respond to his word.  Therefore, we seek never to hide the truth from children, but to explain the Bible and the gospel to them in a clear, passionate, relevant and fun way.

We aim to be infectious with our own enthusiasm for the Lord Jesus as we share our love and kowledge of him with the children and young people. It is our hope that children and young people will love coming to church on Sundays, not simply because it’s fun, but more importantly because they have gained that same excitement about God and His Word.

The main aims of the Children’s Work at Duke Street are:

  • that children not only know truths from the Bible, but are encouraged to apply those truths to their daily lives.
  • that children will memorise scripture and learn what it means so that they can use it to help them follow Jesus day by day.
  • that the children we teach will have both a deep love and a healthy fear of the Holy God who sent his son to die so that sinners can be forgiven through Jesus Christ.
